The Djibouti flag was adopted in 1977 following the country's independence from France. The green represents the everlasting green of the earth, the blue represents the sky and the sea. And the white represents the colour of peace. The star is a symbol of the blood shed spent for independence.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
