Description
Madagascar adopted their flag in 1958, two years before they attained independence from France. The green colour represents the 'Hova' peasant class who played a large role in the independence movement. The white and red colours are for the kingdom of Merina which succumbed to France in 1896.
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
