Description
Germany has had a whiplashed history over the last century. One of the various episodes was the Cold War and the division of Germany. As we all know now, Socialist East Germany dissolved with the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. Information/translations for these scarves vary widely, but we believe these were made for NVA soldiers as a souvenir for their service. What we managed to roughly translate on the scarf is this - 'Honorably served in the infantry of the NVA' and 'For the protection of the workers and farmers power' in the inner DDR circle. The packaging itself is interesting as well with a NVA soldier leaping over a wall towards family - into which Germany, who would know!
The scarf has a series of images showing different portions of the military from tanks to CRBN crews along with the DDR coat of arms front and centre. The doily included has decorative embroidery surrounding the outside along with the coat of arms and 'Nationale Volksarmee' in the middle. For some it seems like just yesterday still, but we are already decades on and these will only become more collectible over time as a Cold War era relic.
